There are a lot of reasons people choose to go to Vegas. A lot of people choose to go for the gambling. Las Vegas is a city built on the glamor and spectacle of taking risks and making big money at the casinos. It is home to some of the most elaborate casinos in the world where the world’s most talented and ambitious gamblers try their luck against the house. It’s the first of many las vegas specials that make the city unique. Another one of these special quirks is that now (more than ever) Vegas is also home to some of the best poker players the world has to offer. Poker championships are frequently filmed at one of the many poker rooms on the strip.

Some people choose to go to Vegas for the partying. In combination with the casino culture comes a pretty ravenous party culture that really knows no boundaries. Vegas clubs are designed to make it seem like partiers are hanging out in the mansions of the rich and famous. The party reputation and lawless feeling in the air around casinos is why many people pick Vegas for bachelor or bachelorette parties.

Others choose to go to Vegas for work or entertainment. In the work category, Vegas has carved out a reputation as a convention city. Every year numerous industries host trade shows or industry-wide conventions in the city. The reason? It’s in an interesting part of the world and it offers a lot of entertainment. For entertainment there’s Cirque Du Soleil, a Celine Dion or Britney Spears performance, or any number of sporting events that are held in the city each year.

However, aside from all these events just mentioned, there are a number of specific events that draw people to Vegas each and every year. What are they?

New Years Eve – This is usually the busiest night on the strip, as people fly in from across the world to ring in the new year while gambling or dancing the night away. One year the number of revellers reached 300,000.

National Finals in Rodeo – The Superbowl of rodeo is held in Vegas every year, and for fans of rodeo it’s a huge deal. Around 200,000 come out over the 10-day event to see which man will triumph.

NASCAR Weekend – What could be more American than NASCAR? Vegas is a great place to host fans of the sport that come in droves to watch the race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The average turnout for the Sprint Weekend (the biggest race of the weekend) is 150,000 screaming fans of sweat, fuel, and engines.

Consumer Electronics Convention – Who ever said that Vegas was falling behind the times? Perhaps because of it’s relative proximity to Silicon Valley, or maybe just because people drawn to casinos are usually fans of technology, every year tons of the world’s technology companies show off their newest gadgets in Vegas.

ConExpo Exhibition – Like the consumer electronics convention, the ConExpo (the construction industries annual exhibition) is one of those work-related activities that bring tons of people to Vegas in a condensed period. The ConExpo convention hall measures about 2 million square feet, so at least there is plenty of room for the 130,000-plus guests.
